Clinical / Counselling

At SEFF we have assembled a team of counsellers who are best placed to deal with the diverse yet specific needs of victims and survivors of 'The Troubles'. The Counselling offered at SEFF is an integrative approach and based upon the principle of working with the individual and developing a process that best meets their needs. At SEFF we provide a funded Talking Therapies service to help meet the needs of Victims and Survivors impacted by ‘The Troubles’. Individuals who have been bereaved, psychologically or physically injured, or care for a loved one as the result of Troubles related incidences or trauma can refer to SEFF for an assessment for Counselling support. SEFF Counsellors provide a range of modalities including Integrative Counselling, Individual Systemic Therapy, EMDR, CBT, and Trauma-Focused Therapeutic Approaches. The most appropriate therapeutic approach offered is based upon an individual assessment of needs carried out by our Clinical Team. We offer services on a face-to-face, telephone and online basis. Sometimes, where appropriate and with your consent, SEFF may refer you to other services to meet your needs such as the Regional Trauma Network. SEFF is an organisational member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). Organisational membership demonstrates that we are committed to providing safe, ethical and professional counselling and psychotherapy services and adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. What you discuss with your Counsellor remains confidential unless: you disclose that you have committed or have intent to commit a crime, or disclose details about a serious criminal act carried out by others; you disclose that you are currently harming, or have intent to harm either yourself or another person; you disclose information regarding harm to minors either from yourself or others. In the situations above, SEFF as an organisation may have to inform relevant support services to ensure we comply with Safeguarding Legislation. This may include your GP, Social Services or the local PSNI to ensure your protection and that of the wider community. We will always endeavour to discuss this with you first should it arise. SEFF offers our Talking Therapies service at a range of times from Monday to Friday. Please see our current Counselling Agreement and Privacy Policy below for more information about our terms of service and use of data. This document is completed at the beginning of your first Counselling appointment.
